from Nathalie Roy (Episcopal, Baton Rouge), chair of the 2013 Edgeworth Scholarship Committee:

Congratulations to LSU student, Hayden Schulingkamp, for being selected as the recipient of this year’s LCA Robert J. Edgeworth Scholarship for a College Classics Student! As a student of LCA member and LSU professor Willie Major, Hayden has distinguished himself to the scholarship committee with his commitment to future teaching at the high school level and with an inspiring essay about his love for the classics. Hayden wrote, “If we read the Classics seriously, we cannot help but to examine our lives in light of their pages: how can I sit down to Homer and not afterwards stand up to live?” Congratulations also to Willie for his role in mentoring a wonderful classics student and future teacher!

If you would like to help support future scholars and classicists like Hayden in Louisiana, please consider making a bid or a donation at the LCA Scholarship Auction House. Bids are open until the afternoon of May 23!
