A message from Wayne Rupp, LCA President (St. Mary’s Dominican, New Orleans) :

Salvete Omnes καὶ Χαίρετε Πάντες!

This start for our 2021-2022 academic year has been quite stressful, so I do hope that you’re all faring well as the pandemic continues, and we recover from Hurricane Ida.  It has certainly taken me some extra time to land on my feet and find a groove for my teaching this year and to send out a short hello!

In any case, I would like to extend the invitation to attend our annual meeting on Saturday November 13 from 10:00 AM – 12:30 PM.  We’ll be sending out a more detailed program and a link for RSVPs soon, but the theme for our presentations will be “Technology in the Latin Classroom.”  This theme was suggested by one of you in the survey for the State of Classics in LA in 2020, and we’re more than happy to oblige with presentations on Gimkit, Blooket, and the like.

As always, we would love to have you continue your membership in the LCA for the low, low price of $20 a year.  Remember that the dues help fund our professional development scholarship.  We will have links for registering for the organization and applying for the scholarship soon.  One of the goals of the business portion of our meeting is to choose a scholarship committee this year so that we can start helping y’all travel again.  (I know that I miss going to conferences in person.)

Is there something else that we can do to support you and your teaching?  If so, please email me (wruppjr AT gmail DOT com) or one of our other officers; we are here to help you and foster community among our Louisiana Classicists.

Valete et Χαίρετε,

Wayne
