A message from Allison Emmerson (Tulane University, New Orleans) :

Dear members of the NOLA Society of the AIA,I hope this email finds you safe and well after the upheaval of the past few weeks. We have several exciting events to look forward to this month!

Most importantly, our first local society lecture of the year is coming up on Thursday, October 28 at 6pm. Prof. Liv Yarrow of CUNY will be leading an interactive lecture on Roman coins. The event will be held on Zoom; please see the attached poster and register here:…/bird-egg-pen-hand…/

October is Louisiana Archaeology Month, and the LA Office of Cultural Development is hosting events all month long. You can find more information and the calendar of events here:…/archaeology-month/index

International Archaeology day is also this month, on October 16th. Learn more about related events here:…/public/archaeologyday/

Don’t forget that the AIA’s Zoom lectures are open to all (one benefit of the pandemic); you can view the calendar of upcoming lectures here:

Finally, a bit of society business: we are planning to hold elections for society officers this winter, and to establish regular elections from there. We are seeking nominations for the following offices:

  • President/Treasurer: Oversees the society and manages the society’s funds.
  • Program Coordinator/Society contact: Plans the programs of the society and takes care of all local details involved in hosting AIA lecturers in conjunction with the AIA office in Boston. Disseminates the society’s activities to members and the public.
  • Secretary: Maintains the records for the society, including acting as membership registrar.
  • Executive board members (3): An executive board made up of three elected members and the society officers will serve as the primary decision-making body of the society.

Please send nominations to Prof. Susann Lusnia (slusnia AT tulane DOT edu), acting Society President, by Monday, Nov. 1 (self-nominations are encouraged!). Be sure to specify for which role you are nominating, and to include a short (one paragraph) biography and explanation for the nomination. We will hold officer elections virtually in November. We also have an upcoming vote on amendments to our Bylaws which will bring them up to date; please be on the lookout for the proposed changes later this month.

All best,
