The College of Notre Dame of Maryland will host a National Endowment for the Humanities Summer Institute for School Teachers June 28-July 30, 2010.  Entitled “Houses of Mortals and Gods: Latin Literature in Context,” the program will provide the opportunity to read selections from several Roman authors that treat the house and household, as well as temples and tombs, while visiting related archeological sites. The first week will take place on the campus; for the remainder of the program participants will move to Rome and Campania in Italy.  Each of the 25 teachers selected will receive a stipend of $3900 toward travel, room and board.   This program is intended primarily for Latin teachers.  Application forms and further information may be obtained on line at www.ndm.edu/NEHInstitute.cfm.  Application deadline is March 2, 2010.
